I know of a pioneer who fell off of a deck while out in field circus. After threatening a lawsuit, the householder let the homeowners insurance pay for injuries and pain & suffering.

Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?
by doublelife ini grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.
it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.
i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

I never really believed any of that. If the big A was so late, so would the GT.

Obsessiveness: "Do Not Calls"
by metatron inthe organization couldn't exist without a huge dose of encouraged ocd in its membership.
(that's obsessive-compulsive disorder, to you sane people).
consider the practice of "do not calls".. many congregations have their territories marked with "do not calls" - people who have explicitly demanded that jehovah's witnesses not show up at their door.

I lived in a rural territory and we never came close to covering all the territory in a year, but they would do all the "do not call" doors every year before CO came. I said that they spend more time calling on the ones who told them that they weren't interested than on people who may want the info. I received blank stares.

Watchtower Facebook Page Part 2
by treadnh2o inthe last thread turned into an apostate war which i found highly entertaining and did not want to hijack the direction it is going in.. however, what has completely tickled my fancy is the fact that almost 20,000 jw's are publicly thumbing their nose at the g.b.
counsel about these social sites.
these members have somehow justified in their minds their being there.

The demonizing of FB has just started in the last few weeks hasn't it? Even though it goes through the JW rumor mill, most will not delete their account until they hear it for themselves at their assembly. A way of holding on till the very last moment. Even then, hopefully most will ignore the BS.

My 2nd Foray into this Forum
by TanCatLuvr inthank you for all the warm welcomes...it actually surprised me!.
i have to say that i have no place in my heart for god (but i do appreciate the concept of a creator) and that prayer is impossible.
i have felt guilty about that for so many years.

What Cantleave said. Many still believe, many others don't. You can feel free to express your feelings/beliefs however you want. Isn't freedom great?

Wobble: They are trying ,in their snakelike way, to slide away from it, they have known for forty years that it is false
Anyone in leadership who knew the truth about where 1914 came from, dimensions from a pyramid, had to know it was false. Much longer than 40 years.

Is the Governing Body really Jehovah's mouthpiece?
by dgp inon another thread, african gb member wondered whether the members of the governing body really believe what they preach.
and that led me to this thought:.
unless i misunderstood what i have read, the governing body claims that jehovah communicates with them and tells them what to do.

Are these things still frowned upon/banned?.
by zzaphod inthinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).

Why do they make such a fuss over the most trivial everyday things?
3 reasons:
1. Control
2. Control
3. Control
Control every aspect of your life.

Progressive Insurance Woman
by RubaDub incan't think of her name right now (she's a comedienne), but i think i have had about enough with the progressive insurance ads.
they seem to be everywhere, all the time.. i guess there is a ton of money to be made when every other commercial on tv seems to be an insurance company hawking its products (progressive, geico, etc, etc, etc).. rub a dub.

Beards?
by Think About It ini'm new here and probably missed the latest discussion of the beard topic.
what's the latest on beards in jw society?
i'm 2 weeks into a beard and just got to wondering about it.

I always had a problem with the no beards policy, even questioning the "We do everything by the bible" BS. Every male in the bible had a beard, what is the problem. To follow the scriptures accurately, every male in the cong should have one too. Never got a straight answer, but african american brothers can have one if they claim that it is his costom, they can also have short hair or shaved heads. I cought all kinds of shit because I had a flat top hair cut. Would not be appointed as elder because of having one, if you were black it was no problem. I made a pretty big scene because of the double standards. I can show pictures of Scotts and Irish with beards, part of my custom too, but no, not permissable for me.
